A very brief history
More than 40 years ago 100's of family homes were compulsory purchased along the North Circular Road with a view to pulling them down and widening the road. For some reason the road widening stopped at the Bounds Green section so the road remained narrow and congested and the houses become more and more dilapidate.
Some houses were rented out either by Transport for London (originally the Highways Agency) or by the council. Those left empty either began to fall down or were squatted in.
In 2008 a road scheme was agreed, a scheme that would not require the demolition of homes. Notting Hill Housing Trust (NHHT) were given a grant of £54.4m to purchase the homes and plots of land along the route.

NHHT began refurbishing homes in 2011 and presented a housing scheme to build flats on empty plots and houses in tenants back gardens.
Tenants and local residents continue to be unhappy with the schemes NHHT have presented. Whilst many of the homes have been refurbished and from the outside look much improved tenants question the quality of the work done. After a meeting with councillors and the MP these issues are being addressed.
NHHT plan to build flats on empty plots of land plus demolish homes to build more flats on the junction of Bowes Rd and Telford Rd. This scheme has been opposed by residents who feel that the area cannot sustain the number of people NHHT plan to bring to this small patch of Enfield.
Enfield Council have asked NHHT to come forward with a full and detailed scheme for the area rather than submitting planning applications one at a time.
